The Chapeau Typeface has been inspired by a Johnny Cash typewritten letter that has been printed on the back of a german released compilation, in which he gratefully speaks about the time he has spent in Landshut, serving the american air-force, during their occupation shortly after World War II. Released sometime in the mid seventies, this record contains most of Cashs’ songs he had composed during his stay in Bavaria. However, this poor print reproduction of an original typed letter worked as a base of this geometric drawn, proportional aligned typeface.
